Sustainable Development
Sustainability is defined in the UN – Brundtland Report as ‘development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’. We believe that sustainable development must be considered from environmental, socio-political, and economic perspectives in order to achieve this definition.
We are living in an ever changing and uncertain world with drastic weather patterns for the same season and it is getting more extreme each year as well. It has brought devastation on a scale, which had never been seen before. As a citizen of planet earth, we all have the responsibility to utilise the available resources and to engineer them in a sustainable manner for the benefit and use of mankind. What each of us can do may only a miniscule contribution but collectively we can all help to retard the rate of deterioration to our planet. At Orient Research, we are continually striving to meet these challenges in our projects, even on a minute scale.
We are working to promote sustainable development and integrating sustainable methods in all our practices. Our multi-discipline design team has been trained in sustainable design and two of our projects were awarded LEED Gold. However, on project basis, we will always incorporate sustainability wherever possible but it may not necessarily be the aim of our client to have the official certification from any of the sustainability authority, be it BREEAM or LEED. At the very least, sustainability is built into our thinking and design processes.
Orient Research can provide clients with the following services and more:
○ Assisting in the process and ensuring that it meets the requirements for sustainable design
○ Sustainable design
○ Energy modelling
○ Renewable energy modelling (BEPI)
○ Noise and Acoustic surveys
