The advantage is the ability to combine all design information in a digital model that is easily accessible and can be modified if necessary. It can also be accessed remotely, without the laborious task of opening stacks of drawings and understanding how they relate to each other. It is all available in the BIM model.

We also use it to visualize our design in 3D, and therefore we can eliminate errors and omissions compared to traditional methods. Any conflicts and contradictions between the various design disciplines can be easily understood and corrected. Therefore, most problems related to design conflicts can be resolved in the design office, making the construction process smoother.

All changes made during construction can also be made to the BIM model, and therefore become a complete record of what has been built. During the building’s service life, the model can be further expanded to assist with maintenance planning of the facility. The as-built database, a digital asset containing all the details, can be queried to produce a full maintenance program for facility management.

You will not have to worry when the responsible maintenance personnel leave the company or when the hard copies of the drawings disappear from the archive. All information is stored digitally and can be accessed by authorized persons.
